View submission: Trumpism, here to stay?

It isn't new. It didn't start with Trump. Literally Julius Caesar did the same thing. It is a cycle. This turn of the wheel is particularly frightening and dangerous. But because of that fear and pain, this sort of shit sows the seeds of its own destruction.

People will build back better and more resilient. And the assholes who tear it all down will find a new way of tearing it down to bring us back to this crap again. It is simply how humanity works. People build thriving societies. Assholes inevitably grab power and try to force their agenda on everyone else rather than being tolerant of any differences.

This sort of identity politics chaos is precisely why the US was designed the way it was to begin with. We watched the endless wars of religion and identity politics in Europe. We tried to do something different. But the divisive bullshit followed us anyway, because it is part of human nature.

I like “this sort of shit sows its own destruction” and I hope you’re correct. But it may take too long for this to occur and by then, who knows what’ll have happened. But well said. Thank you.

The only thing that makes me extremely more pessimistic is the rise of AI and drone surveillance.

I very much fear a hi-tech military that easily overwhelms even your most ardent gun nut militia nerds, and we've got a theocratic fascist who has been a propaganda head for Fox running it all now.

How the fuck are we supposed to defend ourselves from that?!

No, Caesar didn’t do the same thing.

Sure, you can make the argument that history repeats itself, and humanity has been here before, but that’s a bad example to use and unrelated to Trump. Trump and Caesar have very little in common, beyond very superficial comparisons.

If anything it’s the Roman Senate that were more akin to Trump’s behavior than Caesar was.

God damn I love that sentiment. It's the perfect thing to use as motivation to fight against this fascist garbage even harder. "This sort of shit sows the seeds of its own destruction" God damn that feels good to say.
