In America, Trump is tearing down the old systems and replacing them with something built around him. He’s pulling power closer, changing the rules, and making loyalty the only thing that counts. Democracy isn’t the focus anymore. Control is.

It’s not just here. The same thing is spreading across the globe. Nationalism is growing. Leaders are using the same tactics. Dissent is being silenced step by step. This isn’t just a shift. It’s a whole new way of holding power, and once it takes root, it won’t be easy to stop.

It isn't new. It didn't start with Trump. Literally Julius Caesar did the same thing. It is a cycle. This turn of the wheel is particularly frightening and dangerous. But because of that fear and pain, this sort of shit sows the seeds of its own destruction.

People will build back better and more resilient. And the assholes who tear it all down will find a new way of tearing it down to bring us back to this crap again. It is simply how humanity works. People build thriving societies. Assholes inevitably grab power and try to force their agenda on everyone else rather than being tolerant of any differences.

This sort of identity politics chaos is precisely why the US was designed the way it was to begin with. We watched the endless wars of religion and identity politics in Europe. We tried to do something different. But the divisive bullshit followed us anyway, because it is part of human nature.

It will falter and spin out to something different when he dies because it’s a cult of personality. The GOP will either go back to Bush era ideas or be even worse. It depends on who fills the void.

"Trumpism" is the result of sixty years of the Republican party distilling its further-right side. You could even go further and trace roots back to the pre-WWII American fascist movements or post-Reconstruction era.

Now that they've seen success, not only is Trumpism here to stay, but until they face a series of crushing losses, they'll continue to radicalize and get even worse. You can't break an addict out of their addiction while they're at a high.

Until society is changed the technology and stress of climate issues will prevent anyone from feeling like they can relax and just enjoy being alive.

I hate Trumpism, but I refuse to be lectured by the woman responsible for so much unnecessary death and suffering. To the extent that establishmentarianism is capable of the horrors committed by neoliberalism and western governments, it, too, needs to be relegated to the dust bin of history.

One way or another Trumpism is a temporary thing. His brand of politics is chaotic and disloyal. Without power people will abandon him. It isn’t a great thing to think about but look at Nazi Germany. They had complete power but lost it within 15 years because they overreached and didn’t try to be friendly with anyone else.

Add onto that the problems of climate change destroying the world status quo will be upended sooner rather than later.

No, Trumpism isn’t a philosophy, it’s just an amoral person amassing power and stealing everything that isn’t nailed down.

No. It is a cult of personality. When he dies, it dies. His sons are too much of losers to continue the momentum. And Elmo the Nazi is off putting and thoroughly devoid of charisma. Maga dies when you remove the head of the snake. The snake is on its last legs.

Her book and much of the talk are about Fascism...I sure would have appreciated hearing her definition of that word. I feel like she'd be uniquely qualified to give a working definition that doesn't subscribe to the notion that "everyone I don't like is a fascist."

There will likely be another two term Democrat after Trump, and Republicans will rally around some other person who will have a cult following only because they're a Republican.

It’s going to spread everywhere. We are going to be tiered slaves again. I’m glad my grandparents are dead to not have to see everything roll back while at the same time be put into a new form of subjugation
