It's not happiness, it's social awkwardness of needing to ask to get it removed. Most would tip more if it wasn't sneakily added, even in bold.

They absolutely wouldn’t. Perhaps you might which is great. But I’ve spent two decades in this industry and the UK tipping culture barely exists.

But to be fair I’m not a huge supporter of it. Obviously it benefits me, but I would undoubtedly prefer that we were in an economy that paid better and cost less.

It’s equally anxiety inducing taking a bill to a table and mentioning it. Most people are cool with it / expect it now in major cities at least. But it’s awkward all around.

I’ve never and will never challenge someone that wants it removed (I’ve seen it before where places almost guilt trip you about it). At the end of the day it says it’s optional and it is and I don’t need someone to explain it to me. It’s their money.
