I live downtown and the theater is pretty much the only reason I walk the three blocks to the mall. Normal people don't eat out several times a week. We go down there maybe once or twice a month for dinner, once or twice a month for a concert and 4-8 times for movies. When they built the pedestrian mall they had the common sense to realize the mall needed anchors of attraction to bring people down there, and built the ice park and the movie theater. Now these idiots will have removed both. The first for that half empty CODE building, now this.

TBF, the CODE building, developed prepandemic would have been a great anchor. A lot of highly paid, often younger people on the downtown mall adds a lot of post work people heading for a bite and drink. The two food outlets were designed to be incubators for new F/B ideas. They would provide the buildout and give someone a shorter lease than normal to assess the ability to do a full restaurant. The pandemic did toss a wrench into a lot of things.

You say they need things to bring people to the mall, then say that it is bad to...have people living on the mall. No way that is not mixed use. It will not be the first movie theater to get a different life.
