Yeah I’m only 32 but I don’t remember the high street in my town being any different than it is these days.

I'm 41 and I remember my local high street being entirely independent shops (separate butchers, bakers, fishmongers, etc) until around about the point you were born, at which point it (and every other high street in the UK) rapidly degenerated into the generic corporate bilge that you see today.

What exactly did you do in your past life that was so bad it meant we all had to be punished??

I'm 30 and I'll say it depends where you go

Where I live is pretty vibrant but I'm in a somewhat affluent area.

When I go to my hometown though... Jesus.

It's like walking through a ghost town of closed shops and stuff.

Councils need to lower the rents on these places and give lower rents to independent shops.

In the town I'm in at the moment there's a bunch of unique shops which keep it alive.
