View submission: What’s the weirdest “unwritten rule” everyone just follows?
As a northeasterner it was quite a trip when I visited California and greeted people with my usual "Howyadoin" only for some people to actually go ahead and start telling me how their day was.

I had a similar thing when I met people that would ask "How are you?" and leave without waiting for a response.
Admittedly, I see a "Sup?" as not requiring a genuine response... but anything else is a genuine question from me and if I just wanted to say "Hello", I'd say that instead.
The confusion when someone responds the the question also bothers me. Like you asked me a question and I answered and they act like I broke a rule (as the topic of this thread) except that rule doesn't exist where I'm from.
