I had a friend who was in the hospital all summer while I was in collage. Since I lived just down the street in the dorms, I would visit him every day.

I started talking to people in the elevator. So many people who are visiting and scared for family and friends, or nervous. People are always shocked when you greet them in the elevator, but most are happy to have a distraction.

I suspect this wouldn't work in an office building. But I talk Everytime I'm in a hospital elevator!

My dad was recently in the hospital, sadly he passed away, but I found myself chatting on the elevator more than ever on my ride to his room, I think I needed the comfort from strangers on the way up. I also believe people saw the floor I pressed and were just so kind. I was always so happy to see a family with balloons and teddy bears for the new born. Something to smile about.

I talk everytime I'm in any elevator. If just to say hello. Or sometimes "What if the elevator doors open and you find you're in a strange place? Like a forest, or in space..or you rode the elevator to the top floor and it just kept going up..blasts through the roof! I get a laugh ever once in a while. Pisses my wife off though

Up until I was pregnant/had my baby no one talked to me in the elevator. I was caught off guard the first time a random guy asked me if I was pregnant with my first. We chatted all the way up to my doctors office. Now everyone chats to me/my baby whenever I have him with me. I actually really enjoy it.

It works fine in an office building if you don't break elevator rules. I went through a period of time when I'd get on the elevator and keep facing the back of it and talk to people and they were so uncomfortable! I don't know why I did it for so long. I think I was just fascinated.

Definitely works in car parks - particularly if they have a dog or little kid. We've started chatting to people more recently, it's fun :)
