View submission: People dont realize how lucky they are.
It's absurd. I was just in another subreddit where someone said "Children/ people who are very sick don’t have responsibilities or expectations. People care for them unconditionally and show more care and love." And when I pointed out that's just not the universal experience, downvotes. Like I don't really care about the downvotes, but people not only can't relate, it upsets them to even have to consider for a moment that's not everyone's experience.
At this point, I've pretty much given up trying to point out how stupid and inaccurate it is to generalize having a happy childhood. And whenever I try, I immediately remember why I don't.

Yes, this, people who haven’t had these experiences, who had relatively good upbringings, it’s so fundamental to who they are that they can’t comprehend it being any other way. I find that to be the case for most of my trauma related issues.
