Being active helps though. Specifically building muscle though, while cardio is amazing for your heart and will build some muscle in the legs, general resistance training is best.

Muscles require energy just to maintain their size, so building muscle will increase the number of calories you use while resting, letting you eat the same number of calories in a day and lose weight at the same time

It'd still not really significant unless you're on tons of steroids and are an Olympic powerlifter or strongman.

1lb of muscle raises your rmr by 6 calories a day. If you put on 20 lbs of pure muscle on top of your average frame, that's 120 calories a day you burn extra.... like a slice of breads worth.
