I had the same experience, too! Why are there no optometrists that are more like doctors and have no adjacent shops? That’s how it was when I grew up up in Germany. They’d give you a prescription, and you could go to an optician anywhere in town.

I don't know! To be fair they do send you the prescription so you can just leave and buy them elsewhere, which is what I did.
