Err, they are. Have you seen how much frames and lenses cost? The cost of frames and lenses are far, far cheaper than what they charge. The markup is huge. This Vox article[1] interviews two ex-eyewear executives that say designer glasses are marked up by nearly 1000% and “For $15, you can get designer-quality frames, like what you’d get from Prada.”

This is a bit like someone complaining that spark plugs are £30 on Autodoc but their mechanic is charging £80 to change them.

The ‘marked up’ price you pay includes far more than *just* the frames. It’s the lenses, the fitting of the lenses, a little bit of salaries of everyone from the optometrist to the store cleaner, the rent, heating and lights in the store… please tell me you are aware of how businesses work?

If you can get those $15 frames for $15, good for you… but they’d be pretty useless without the lenses et al.
