I think the stereotype comes from the fact that traditionally, women are the ones cleaning/tidying/taking care of the house. Meaning women know where things are because they put it there in the first place. And it's easier to ask than to search for it yourself.

Obviously I'm for a 50/50 share of the house chores (I'm a woman too) but this is how things were and how they still are in many households.

It’s most definitely a fun “side-effect” of my ADHD, but I always just say I’m bad at looking. It’s true, after all
