I’m 62. I have lots of friends and family and I’m not interested in regular social media. If I think it’s important for you to see a picture of my cat ( often it’s very important ) I would have already showed you one. If you’re a distant acquaintance I’m assuming you’re ok without seeing a picture of her. ( She’s really cute, I promise.)

I like Reddit because to me it’s more like what the internet used to be - a group of strangers discussing specific things or interests they have in common, rather than using regular social media as “the display case of life.”

Now you’ve piqued my curiosity. Could I please see a picture of your cute kitty? Thanks.

Well said, and the same for me (72M American). I stopped using Facebook 8-10yrs ago bc it already felt like a toxic waste dump (though I admit I very occasionally spend 5min on it to view this or that specific post by a family member or close friend, but then I'm right back off). Stopped using Insta and Twitter 4-5yrs ago after I essentially "decided" to lose interest in them. A week ago, after actively using Reddit for about 3yrs, I culled out maybe a third of the subs I'd joined, simply to clean house a bit. The only "general interest" subs I'll occasionally read are "rant" and "self," but otherwise it's all special-interest subs.

60 here. My reasons for posting on FB have passed when my parents away and my kids stopped using it. We communicate on Signal or Discord now. I'm on Reddit to follow topics of interest and comment and participate when I want. I agree with squirrel cat, but I'm sharing dog pics.
