View submission: Why are you still on Reddit?

I like being anonymous. I can say give my opinion without fear of being judged by friends and family. I can (hopefully) pass along a bit of wisdom to people asking for help (68/F). I can make a comment to someone who is down, or alone and sometimes that is all someone needs.. to vent or not feel invisible. I can keep up on what young people are doing these days. I love doppelgänger!!! I am a caregiver to my 93 year old mom, and I spend a lot of time in the caregiver sub just being supportive to others.

I got more active on Reddit when I was caring for my mom with dementia. The group is supportive and informative and helped in more ways than I can write. Now the stop drinking group is really good and just a reminder that I can get thru a day without a glass of wine. In the autism sub, I read about autism and experiences other parents are having. I have a grandson with autism and sometimes I don’t know what’s happening. There’s just a wealth of information on Reddit. It’s just experiential, it’s not necessarily facts and research. But sometimes I just need to know that others are having similar experiences as me. It’s comforting.

Me too. My ig, TikTok and x all got taken over by scammers and I can’t even log into them anymore and I quit fb. Too many games of add/delete and a lot of keeping up with the Joneses. This feels like the only safe space anymore.

This is more or less my reason but mostly because it’s a vast universe broken down by topics or subjects. There is always something to learn , see or know. It’s like a huge library populated by the occasional twats, trolls and creeps. When I come across them I just block them.

I’m 62. I have lots of friends and family and I’m not interested in regular social media. If I think it’s important for you to see a picture of my cat ( often it’s very important ) I would have already showed you one. If you’re a distant acquaintance I’m assuming you’re ok without seeing a picture of her. ( She’s really cute, I promise.)

I like Reddit because to me it’s more like what the internet used to be - a group of strangers discussing specific things or interests they have in common, rather than using regular social media as “the display case of life.”

Im 65/F. I just joined over a month ago. I feel the same as you. Love being anonymous for the same reason. I enjoy sharing my wisdom with younger folks and I do my best to lift people up. I’m also a caregiver to my 98 year old Dad.

Your reasons are exactly why I joined! I’ve been a caretaker for our moms too. You have to be there all the time and Reddit was fun. Lots of animal subs!

Same same same. I stopped going on social media probably 6 years ago. I just started Reddit this past year. It’s a place I can talk about the shows my husband could care less about, and being anonymous is huge!

This! My family supports Trump and they are super racist. I am in a mixed race marriage and we have mixed race children together. While my family says they love them they don’t hesitate to spew hateful speech about my husband’s race all over Facebook while claiming they “aren’t referring to him” but if he ever said anything about their race you better believe they would take it personally. It’s just easier to be anonymous. I know my family is ignorant and hateful. It breaks my heart to see that. At least if they have posted something here I won’t know it’s them. I can speak freely here without them telling me I’m somehow ruining America.
