I just checked the older images. If you use Google Earth Pro and look back through the historical images you can see the evolution of these features. In the post 2004 images there is a white line in the trees parallel to the coast. That's the old sea shore, and these were submersed areas of erosion like mentioned above with coral stabilizing them.
After the earthquake the coast there uplifted (as mentioned in the first comment), and those areas were pushed out of the water. You can then track how the wave action sculpted them in the successive historical images.
The early pre-earthquake images is relatively low rez, but it's good enough to track the change in coastline.
