If you’re looking at what I think you are those are parts of lagoons and areas where sediment has built up between rip currents. Completely natural.
The coastline of the island is undergoing change as a result of uplift experienced during the 2004 earthquake and tsunami. This means that a lot of the previous coastal features are reshaping themselves and settling into a new norm.
