View submission: how it feels being European rn
WWI was close to inevitable. Almost nobody wanted it but the trajectory was there. He wasn’t a great ruler but he definitely didn’t want that war either.

Wilhelm wasn't a good emperor, but the flak he gets sometimes even becomes comedial.
Yes, we get it, some of the good old WW1 propaganda about the uncultured germans and their idiot leader still lives in people heads apparently.
^(Next up: all war crimes were committed by the central powers and the UK starving 300,000 civilians to death was totally legal.)

Unfortunately, the government had no control over military matters during war, and the military decided the best way to get to France was to go via Belgium. It is interesting to consider how things might have played out had Belgian neutrality not been broken - but the war had already sucked in most of Europe by that point.

Will people of the future look back at our period, and say the same if WW3 breaks out?

"wasn't a great ruler" is already an exageration when talking about him
fucker, gave a blank cheque to austria, basically saying they would go to war if austria got into war no matter what, then when the crisis heats up into boiling point he goes on a fucking vacation, and reveals after the start of the war that he never wanted war and though the austrians were "stupid" for it
so fucker trusts 100% his allies goes on vacation and gets suprised when austria does what they promised to do from the start
