They probably can’t read road signs.
And no, not those with Italian text, but those with internationally used road signs with times.
Most likely they drove into ZTL limited traffic zones, parked in the wrong spots, at the wrong times. Lots of cities have surveillance cameras, so the fines are sent to the owner of the car and not placed on the windshield.
Usually common navigation systems help you around them, but you probably don’t look at them much while filming reels.

It’s probably ZTL.
Every town has different rules. Some you can get a cheap waiver. Some you can’t. Some you can get a waiver later that day, some you can’t.
Some are 24 hrs, some are not.
Obviously they had no idea.
Google navigation will send you right through those zones without a care in the world.
My trick was to rent a brand new car. The registration was so new I couldn’t register for a ZTL permit even when I tried.
They will never find me!
