Lots of reasons but one that I find funny as fuck was because the US has historically competed with them being the major world power and they blame us for their creation.

America has ocean defense. It makes them lazy and arrogant. Britain has sea and channel defenses… enough to be going on with, not enough to be lazy and complacent.
