On the mailing list Simon Volpert announced their favourite toy (2021-10-22, link via sloums mailing list gateway):

It features a cgi script on a gemini site, which can be used to hide content behind a bitcoin accepting paywall. I'm not convinced that the world has been waiting for exactly this. However, I am not surprised at all, that something like this is being implemented. Imho it is a nice example of "because I can".
Now, answering at all gives the toy more publicity. So I decided to not answer.
On 2021-11-11 Simon announced Verion 1.2 of their toy.

Now I found that panda-roux has voiced some strong opinions about it, basically, "Naaa, we are not going to do this".

In my opinion the only way to avoid such toys is to not use them ever. Good news: I can choose to ignore the toy at any time, without asking for permission.
Cheers,
