I am not happy!! 2005-12-12, we ordered 5000 flyers for Claudia at http://flyerline.com/ (Flyerline Schweiz) because we have been seeing several one-sided flyers with their contact info on the back. Our flyer cost more because we didn’t want their ad on it.
Unfortunately, these didn’t come out as expected: There’s a big white bar covering the last 2cm on the right! We’ve got 5000 useless flyers, now. I already called them and sent them some specimens. Hopefully they’ll just replace them at no cost. 🙁
Claudia's flyer with a white bar on it
Flyerline.ch claims that the TIFF file we sent them already shows the white rectangle and that therefore this is must be a data error.
Can it be, that a TIFF file that looks perfectly ok with the Gimp looks totally different on some other software? I have trouble believing them! I checked it with KView, XV, Eye of Gnome, ImageMagick display, and KuickShow (basically all the viewers installed on my SlackWare system). Perhaps they all use the same TIFF library, who knows.
Flyerline uses Photoshop CS2. On the phone, they absolutely refused any compromise, even though I asked them several times whether there was any thing they were prepared to do, and even though I explained several times, that I believed that both were at fault since the image obviously looked OK on my system and since I believed them that it did not look ok on their system.
No money back, no reprints, nothing. They were adamant about not compromising on this, even when I asked her whether legal action was the only thing they would accept. She said that if I felt that to be the best way of proceeding... I said no! I felt the best way was to reach some compromise now, on the phone. But there was no goodwill forthcoming.
They believe the error to be clearly on my side, they don’t take responsibility for corrupted data, yadda yadda. I *know*. But as far as I am concerned, I did not send them any corrupt data. It *works* on my system!
I am *angry* now.
I can accept technical problems. I cannot understand lousy customer service. Cutting customers some slack is part of the service.

Alex, send me the tiff and I’ll open it in Photoshop CS2 for you then send you a screenshot as proof of what I see.
The next recourse is to stop the payment. If you paid by credit card, contact them and tell them you are not accepting the goods and they will reverse the payment. Then send the flyers back.
Good luck!

Thanks for the offer! Here’s the TIFF file we sent them. Unfortunately I paid by cash on delivery, so the money’s gone.

Happy to oblige, but I’m the bearer of bad news. Strangely, they are telling the complete truth!! I’ve uploaded the screenshot here for you. This is what it looks like immediately upon openning the TIFF in Photoshop CS2; there is indeed a transparent gutter on the right hand side.
My (revised) suggestion is that Claudia signs and numbers every one. Maybe she could hold a raffle. If nothing else it will make them collector’s items.
Hope you have a wonderful Christmas, Alex.

I see. Weird! Lessons learnt:
1. Never use TIFF format if you can avoid it.
2. Never order 5000 prints from a print shop without seeing a printed sample first.
3. Never buy from flyerline.ch, because I didn’t like their quality control: How could they not notice that something was wrong?)
4. Never buy from flyerline.ch, because I didn’t like their customer service: Not interested in helping their customers.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year, Robin. 😄
