2019-01-27 Episode 17
{.right} Halberds and Helmets Podcast I’m a proponent of the strict reading of the Moldvay rules when it comes to spells: not being able to learn more spells than you can cast per day. Also, not being able to copy spells from scrolls and spellbooks and requiring a teacher instead, no spell research and no crafting of magic items.

- 2010-12-16 Schools of Magic: “magic users and elves may only know as many spells as they are able to cast per day”, via B/X Magic-User Spellbooks by P Armstrong (see 2012-02-18 Ode to Ode to Black Dougal for more)
- 2013-11-26 A Strict Reading of the Magic System: “The characters learn new spells from the few magic users and elves they meet during their adventures.”
- 2013-02-16 Spell Book Notation: “I used to just write down the master spell book. That slows me down when figuring out which spells lower level casters know.” Actually, I don’t use this anymore.
- 2014-07-30 Research: “a 2d6 test with a table of drawbacks” (which we have never used at the table)
- Spellcasters: “This book lists important spellcasters which can act as quest givers and teachers for player characters.” There’s also a separate PDF for every caster in the same directory.
- 2017-07-18 Items for Sale: “Once again, my players went to the adventurer’s shop, wanting to buy stuff for their expedition into the sewers.”

Note that I recently edited my PDF and so what used to be page 15 is now page 14 and that’s why this episode and the last episode both talk about page 14. This page would have been page 15 not so long ago.
