The other day I was waiting for a train and strolling through the “shopville” below the main station and looked through the books available at the Reseller. One of them caught my eye: *Inspector Ghote geht nach Bollywood* by H. R. F. Keating, a translation of *Filmi, Filmi, Inspector Ghote* – a book that was originally published in 1976, and first translated in 1978. ISBN 3-293-20323-X. They republished it with some small changes (including mentioning “Bollywood” in the title) for the metro selection of the publisher. The “metro” books are all mysteries set in cities all over the world. I wrote about it before (2004-05-23 Books, 2004-07-04 Books). See the publisher's page for more.

I didn’t quite enjoy this book as I did the others. Maybe there was not enough local details, or perhaps it was just simply made, or the language reminiscent of the 1970s, I can’t quite put my finger on it.

I do think it is quite amazing that the author was born in 1926 and is still alive (the new foreword was written in 2004).

Now that I look through the list of books in this “metro” series, I realize that I have also read *Die Fakultät* by Pablo De Santis last year during our Trip to the Canary Islands... I didn’t like it too much – it had this Kafka feeling to it (more from the publisher).
