Erez Zukerman made me think about searching again, and so I finally did the right thing and allow searches for “apple and pear”, “apple or pear”, “apple and pear or banana”, etc. At the moment, “or” binds stronger than “and”: Think of “apple and pear or banana” as “(apple and (pear or banana))”. I’m not sure whether that is a problem or not. It may not make sense from a mathematical point of view, but it sure makes sense from an information-retrieval point of view.
