When in doubt, go meta.
The "strange metal instrument" I was talking about was a Jew's Harp, muruchungga, xomus, Changu, etc. The whole "know how to play" versus "not know how to play" part is easily covered with the instrument normally played as a drone, so you can know how to make noise with it without being able to play melodies on it.

Title: What's next for this song?
Date: 09/28/2018 - 21:37
What's next for this song?
I thought maybe I could add drums.
But maybe I need to sing this thing first.
Maybe I need to learn to sing.
Maybe I just need to
beat on some things.
Improvised percussion.
I think that's really a thing.
But what's next for this song?
Maybe I need some
really nice distortion
on maybe an instrument.
But I only know how to play
this old, old mouth thing.
I'm not even sure what it's called.
I don't even think it's a thing.
I found it in the attic.
I found it in the attic.
It's made of metal. Metal.
And I think you blow on it.
But, I don't know how to play,
not even that scrap of metal.
I don't know how to read
music or time.
What's next for this song?
There could be so much.
Maybe I will add some cows
keeping time with their bells.
I might use a synthesizer
to synthesize those cows.
I think that's what they call it.
When you make the cows play bells.
When there are no cows.
No cows in the room.
When there are no cows
in the studio with you.
You just synthesize the cows
and watch them play their bells.
I don't think that they chew their cud.
I think it's just as well.
Because there is no grass.
No grass in the studio.
But there are synthesizers.
That I know.
So I'll synthesize a cow
and I'll give it a good bell.
And that cow and I will make music
and it will be just swell.
And when we're done
we will post it online,
and maybe a person or two
will tell me it's just fine.
