My Salt Eater, My Dream Woman

I did this song in the first few hours of February 1st (local time).

It showed some challenges of hymn-filking. It is easy to think you can just go by meter, but... it never seems to be just that way.

Overall, particularly as a first FAWM song, it went super smoothly and I'm happy with the results. For a set of lyrics that tell a story, it does that well. I may revisit this alien as a culture and not as a last-of-her-kind. If I do that, I think it'll be easier to work with the concept.

My biggest disappointment for this song is that it seems to discount the premise of my concept album. I knew that was happening early in the lyric-writing process, but I wasn't sure how to make the songs mesh perfectly with the concept.

To that end, at least for the duration of FAWM, I'll be leading in (or even bookending) the songs with spoken words that bridges between the concept and the specific song. (Even if they later wind up only in liner notes, they'll provide a mental bridge for me, if nothing else.)

EDIT: I think I've found a way to make this work with the album's concept. I've revised the lyrics for what I plan to do.

(meter: 8-8-8-7-4)

(Spoken lines, to be added later: "Dating on this ship is next to impossible. *beep* *beep* Maybe when we land, I'll meet...")

<song>

(Spoken) Good-bye.

(Spoken lines, to be added later:*beep* *beep* "Hmm... maybe it wouldn't be such a good idea.")

Lyrics

My Salt Eater, My Dream Woman

I love you now, more than ever

You are every woman to me

Stay with me and stay like her.

I brought the salt.

My Salt Eater, My Dream Cover

I could be an agent, daring.

You'd perfectly blend in, drinking.

Sneaking, waiting, whispering.

I brought the match.

My Salt Eater, My Dream Lover

I love your hair, such lovely blue

I brought this top, don't wear those slacks

Tears bring crimson to your eyes

I brought the wax.

My Salt Eater, My Dream Woman

You need me more than I need you

When out of salt, you must comply

Quiet, here's what we will do.

I brought the ship.
