Things to think about when writing new rooms and things. And features to help us write more exciting rooms and things.
Writing
When adding new rooms, consider the following:
- Is the group of rooms with the items and exits therein entertaining to read?
- Is there some kind of lore one learns when reading it all, some explanation for the current state of affairs?
- Is there some riddle to solve, a secret to discover?
- Beware of mazes for the sake of it. Mazes are a clever thing to build, but a tedious thing to play, unless there's some actual problem solving: hints that help you find your way back if only you carefully read what's described.
