Towards an Anarchist Atheism

2021-10-05

To my comrades,

I argue we should adopt a position of more explicit atheism under

ASF-Perth.

This atheism should not be of the Imperialist kind. By this I mean the

weaponised 'anti-theism' of, say, Dawkins, Hitchens, or Harris.

Anglo-american, purely capitalist atheism is just neoconservatism, the

kind we see in the mouths of the SBS or the ABC--speaking

patronisingly of the women 'left behind' in Afghanistan.

A better way of talking about the _explicitly anarchist_ atheism I

think we should adopt within ASF-Perth is to describe what I imagine

atheism is not.

Atheism is a rejection of the supernatural. In our dealings, ASF-Perth

should not merely refuse membership to leaders of religious

organisations--although this is sufficient for the purposes of our

Constitution--but we should resist adopting the methods of spiritual

or religious practices.

By this I mean we should be firm materialists. We should draw

political judgements according to natural descriptions and

observations alone. This type of behaviour was not alien to Bakunin,

Goldman, and Kropotkin. These firm scientists of anarchism did not let

the dominion of spiritualist or religious thought cloud their

judgement about what they reckoned reality to be.

In ASF-Perth should be firm in its rejection of Religion andS

wepbweiritualism--what really amounts to supernaturalist Idealism. I am

very serious about this.

I am not worried about what others might say about my attitude. More

and more young people are turning to anarchism because of their

irreligiousness. I only need to draw your attention to the numbers

tabulated by the ABS. Religion is on the out in Perth.

To health and anarchy,

Vidak.
