No God But Us

ELP, The Only Way

The song referenced in Siiky's post is lovely. If you have IPFS, you could get it from the URL at the end of this post. The organ music at the start made me think of JS Bach on LSD.

Man is man-made

And god is man-made. At least, the god of the big three monotheisms. There's even a hint about it in the book of Genesis. Supposedly, God said:

Come let us make man in our own image.

But that was a bit of tricky projection. What really happened is that some absolute monarch -- maybe it was Hammurabi, maybe it was Sargon the Akkadian, but probably it was some Mesopotamian or other -- said to his court:

Come, let us make god in our own image.

Neat trick, that, and people have fallen for it for at least 3 millennia.

The closest thing to god is the singularity at the beginning of the universe. At the big bang, it blew up into a quintillion quintillion quintillion itty bitty pieces traveling away from one another with explosive force. And those itty bitty pieces eventually formed stars and planets and life and conscious life (people). Ain't no one here but us chickens, as the saying goes. Thou art god/goddess. And I believe in you.
