I feel weird thinking that it's been "cold" in Florida. the last couple weeks. Because I grew up in the Snow Belt, of the US, and I've also lived in Alaska, where I saw much deeper cold. I've been outside in -50F weather, compared to that a measly 40-50F feels positively warm. But I've also lived down here for heading on 25 years now, so to me at this point, 40F feels pretty cold.

I do take some consolation in one thing though, while it took me years to get somewhat used to the heat and humidity that almsot relentlessly dominates Florida weather. It only took me a few days to get used to it being 40-50F again.

I don't know why I never thought of this before, but now I'm getting a chuckle out of the three different primary measurements for temperature being able to spell out KFC.

Also, now I want chicken. 路 3 weeks ago

i can deal with C and K, but F scares the shit outta me &) the nerd in me prefers K, for it makes the most common sense. 路 3 weeks ago

Always remember that -40F = -40C. The units in F are smaller. So 0F is -17.8C, 32F is 0C, and 89.6F is 32C. (Florida was 32C last time I went in October 2019.) 0F is significant because it is the stable temperature of a brine of ammonium chloride between ice and water. Being something of a scientist, I live in both worlds and, while I can't insta switch between the two, I have a sense of what's hot and cold. 路 3 weeks ago

@darkghost For sure, if the choice is between it being colder or warmer, I'd always take colder.

@bavarianbarbarian Yeah, I grew up in the US, so that's still the thing here. Anyway, -46C.

@danrl Probably depends a lot on what part of Cali you're in. Florida is pretty similar everywhere, Cali is pretty diverse climate wise from top to bottom. 路 3 weeks ago

was in florida last week and my hosts recommended to bring warm clothes. it wasn鈥檛 colder than in california but was assured that this is cold season. floridians just live on a different baseline i think :)

also what @darkghost said. always easier to get warmer (but often hard to stay warm. ever camped in the snow? it can be a challenge) 路 3 weeks ago

Still funny that you use F instead of C or K &) 路 3 weeks ago

I've always felt it is easier to get warm than it is to get cool. You can always add layers to warm up, or exercise. To stay cool you can only shed so many layers and only do a minimum level of activity and still be hot. Doing the minimum of layers and activity is incompatible with life in general as well. 路 3 weeks ago
