I've had a number of conversations with my grandfather about his past as a bulletin board system admin, and you can really tell how infrequently he gets talk about it by how much his eyes light up when he gets the chance. I really love hearing his stories, but I think he might be under the impression that there's no longer any space for such things on the internet... I'm hoping today to introduce him to gemini and this bulletin board, so I can re-invigorate some of that love for computing he has had hidden in the crawlspace of his mind for the past two decades. I hope he enjoys it! I'll probably show him either lagrange or a terminal client, depending on his preference. Can't wait!

you should make 'em aware to the fact that command-line BBS' are still very much active. Some that I'd rec are the bottomless abyss BBS and heatwave BBS, plus there's a site on the web with resource to many still active and newly active servers known as telnetBBSguide. ya just gotta have telnet/ssh installed and configured on your system or a client enabled to do so. ยท 1 year ago
