First OpenBSD install on bare metal! I got it setup and working for what I want right now (a wireguard peer). However, install feels like I'm doing something wrong because the sets wouldn't install from http and I couldn't get it working from the install media either. I ended up flashing the miniroot image to the boot media and flashing the install image to another usb that I was then able to install the sets from. Besides the wonky install, (that I'm fully blaming my lack of knowledge for), really happy to have an OpenBSD box up and running.

@greg: thanks! I knew flashing two devices felt wrong :) Will do this next time! 路 1 month ago

The right directory structure would be "put all the sets into a single folder". The small kernel used by the installation ramdisk supports FAT, so that would work as a file system. 路 1 month ago

Thanks! Installing the sets from the usb without having to flash it would be a better solution, I will have to try that and get the right directory structure. 路 1 month ago

Ahh, welcome! OpenBSD is absolutely fantastic, I have been having SO much fun with it. Install can be a bit of a faff sometimes -- if you are not plugged in via ethernet, you often need to copy the sets to a thumb drive, in the right directory structure, then specify the thumbdrive for `fw_update` etc... It's not TOO bad, but it can take a bit of faffing! But in any case, it's great to have you in the club! :) 路 1 month ago
