There is something beautiful about natural wood. In particular I like a dark wood (eg brown accacia) and a brigh metal such as aluminium or brass.

The museum of Edinburgh used to have lots of engineering models that fitted that description, they were fascinating. Most got taken off display in a revamp for the purpose of spatial aesthetics (there's irony that items are deemed too old to 'waste' space on in a museum). Here's an example that's at least still on display.
