The Thin Man (1934). Pre-Code movies are amazing time capsules. While they lack in visuals at times, the dialog is about 10X smarter than modern movies. Watching two charming members of the 30's leisure class on a bender where in the first 15 minutes of runtime they've ordered 12 martinis. I've always subscribed to one is too few and three is too many while completely failing to realize that 6 martinis was even possible. This is a 10/10 film for me.

I need to get more into classic movies. It's fascinating to see the influence of theatre production in the earlier days (painted backdrops, makeup and lighting etc) and the use of static or very limited linear camera movement. Such a contrast to modern cinematography. ยท 1 month ago
