The more I use Matrix, the more I'm souring on it. I really wanted to love it when I first heard about it, but it's just such a cludgy UX.

I find the specification for matrix too complex and it is resource intensive to run a home server because it is written in python. There is a go version in development but it is not coming soon. 路 1 year ago
yeah unsure why xmpp plus peering hasn't caught on in small open source communities. it can do end to end encryption, group chats, etc. I feel like the whole draw of these other systems is chat history. 路 1 year ago
~zero Some communities have moved to it, some have held the devil's hand and moved to Discord or even Slack. I'd prefer Matrix over them, but there just isn't really a single client that makes the experience bearable to me. IRC and XMPP work just fine, and I don't really know why we haven't just improved those. Don't even get me started on hosting your own Matrix server... 路 1 year ago
I also have issues with it, not only the UX. I also wanted to like it at first, years ago. Now it's more an annoyance, but many communities have moved to it. Maybe when the peer to peer mode works well it can add some value. Who knows. 路 1 year ago
