Email "top posting" debate: I am sure some remember the debates over email formatting etiquette. Some of the options were Bottom Posting, Inline Response or Top Posting. I added my memories of this debate at: gemini.ctrl-c.club/~nristen/gemlog/20211019.gmi I am curious if any else remembers the same flame wars?

Sandra said it wuite succinctly on Mastodon: top posting vs bottom posting is so 1995. Personally, in business life, I top post like everybody else; in private life, I write emails like letters with no quoting at all; and I am not on any mailing lists right now. · 3 years ago
I don't especially care either way but I do think it depends on context. Mailing lists? Makes a lot of sense to have the oldest discussion at the top so you can read chronologically top to bottom. Informal messages between just a few people? Makes more sense to see the most recent messages at the top. · 3 years ago
I never understood why this fairly trivial matter gets people worked up so much. In my view it comes down to whether you are the kind of person who likes to see the most recent stuff at the top of the page, or at the bottom. If your audience is speaking French, it does make sense to talk French to them. and not just press on regardless in English like some terrible tourist because you expect everyone to speak your own language. · 3 years ago
