Any Kindle owners over here? On February 26, Amazon will remove the option to download your ebooks for USB transfer.
I recommend backing them up and using Calibre to deDRM and export to other formats.
I bought my current Kindle in 2017 (I think? It's a paperwhite something). I will not replace it until it dies, but when that happens I will definitely not go with Amazon again.

@chirale. Yeah. The kindle I have (pw2) is an excellent piece of hardware, but the software is amongst the worst I ever saw, and amazon is working non-stop to make it even worse. I usually do not bother rooting devices, but that one I had to jailbreak in order to do very basic things like adding keyboard layouts for languages I read in. 路 1 month ago
I was very fond of the e-paper technology, but portable readers are "brand X digital service readers.". My Kindle has always some update to do if you connect on wi-fi. They're against national digital lending because of their Kindle Unlimited, but KU covers non-fiction poorly. I definitely do not go with Amazon; maybe some brands support digital lending, but I'll prefer a completely decoupled device or an e-paper monitor. Tech is good; commercialization is appalling. 路 1 month ago
I switched to Kobo some years ago, it鈥榮 nice enough platform to run KOReader on. But in any case I instantly remove DRM from everything I buy. :) Btw, there was a new jailbreak for kindles announced recently: https://kindlemodding.org/jailbreaking/WinterBreak , which claims to work on a rather impressive list of models. I haven鈥檛 tried it myself, though, so I鈥檓 only mentioning it, not personally recommending. ;) 路 1 month ago

Not too shocking, but always sad to see.
Fortunatelly I am free from kindle online services over here. DRM free books for the win. 路 1 month ago
@melyanna, I recommend a cheap and very functional ebook reader from Poland - inkBOOK.. my inkBOOK Classic 2 is 9 years old and works good. I'll replace it soon by newer model Caypso.. inkBOOK works with Android.. 路 1 month ago
Yeah I have the gen2 paper white, it's already been blocked from updating snd jailbroken. It is just a husk to run KOReader.
If mine ever dies, I am off to a FOSS variant or Barnes and Noble as they seem to not care about it being jailbroken. 路 1 month ago
