@mc Yeah, I get that. Theologically, you are correct. Though you also can't really claim intellectual honesty if you aren't willing to also accept that you could be wrong, if you aren't willing to challenge your faith and struggle with it. It sounds like you're at least trying, so I wish you the best of luck in that. Just remember that, fundamentally, to hold a belief you've got to have a solid evidentiary basis for it. In the absence of evidence for a belief, the correct choice is to not hold the belief as true. 路 2 years ago
I was +/- decided to not comment again here, but you seem to be a nice fellow, @lykso, and I would like to let something clear.
I'm a Christian. I'm no longer "looking for the truth' because I've found it. The truth is in Christ and is Christ. Like the apostle John writes, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God", and a little ahead, "the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us". 馃槆
However, I keep 'asking hard questions', mainly because 42 does not satisfy me as an answer to the question "which is the meaning the meaning of life, the universe, and everything?" 馃槈 路 2 years ago
@bavarianbarbarian It took me several long years of hard study and hard questions to extricate myself from the clutches of religion. It's *really* not easy. I don't begrudge anyone their private beliefs, whatever I may now think of their veracity. If I hadn't had the chance or inclination to study as I did, I would probably still believe in a dualistic universe and the rightness of the religion I formerly belonged to.
@mc Yeah, I also used to think that the problem was that other people just didn't understand the Bible "correctly." Keep asking hard questions, thinking critically, and looking for the truth, though, and you well may find it. 路 2 years ago
@gnuserland Someone (not me) made a meme that reads: 'To sleep is like being dead, but without the compromise'.
Helena Blavatsky writes in her book The Voice of The Silence more or less the following: The one who dies believing in nothing will surely have an eternity of nothingness.
Nighty night. 路 2 years ago
@bavarianbarbarian Do not confuse matters of knowledge and matters of faith.
I congratulate you for not believing in 'gods, ghosts, holy cattle etc... for god's sake'. 路 2 years ago
@mc thank you for letting me know... Now I can sleep better... 馃槍 路 2 years ago
Folks, really? Some of you do believe in the bible? Please, don't get me wrong, everybody can believe in whatever... as long as it doesn't harm anyone. But grown adults who believe in gods, ghosts, holy cattle etc.. for gods sake, where's your mind? 路 2 years ago
@lykso Yes, many denominations hold that the book of Revelation is an alegory. (Along with everything else that they don't understand in the Bible.)
About the sentence:
the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name

@mc The 666 and individual Antichrist memes may be more cultural than biblical as well. Here's a short article: https://www.grunge.com/255291/the-history-of-the-number-of-the-beast-explained/
The orthodoxy of the denomination I grew up in (a fundamentalist one in all other regards) held that the book was largely an allegory for events past, contemporaneous, and in the near future of the time it was supposed to have been written. So, according to them, you should be fine so long as you hadn't sworn allegiance to Nero or done his bidding. 路 2 years ago

Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name.
-- Revelation 13:16
As you may read, @gnuserland, you should only worry if you're marked *on the right hand or the forehead*. 路 2 years ago

@gnuserland Everyone's welcome. If the Antichrist wants to sign up, all I ask is that they put a reasonable expiry on their cert 馃槀 路 2 years ago
