In the bowls of the station there's a lab that calls itself The Historical Protocol Lab which used to be big about old transmission and storage formats. These days they are struggling with the various ways in which the WebDAV protocol was implemented back in the dirtside days. Chief Engineer of Unicode is cursing the retro implementation the junior Developer of Minimal Solutions provided, since it doesn't handle encoding correctly. "The filenames are encoded, too, junior!"

"I know, boss. But check out this old protocol I found: we could write a file transfer protocol (FTP) implementation and have it inside the emulator…"

"Of course not!" exploded the superior Team Historical Contact. "Have you seen how convolutet it is? You will need to connections, and then there's all that text vs. binary business."

"But surely all that can be solved," I tried to interject.

"No, junior. Solving this is not solving the problem. The problem is making it easy for people to use the simulation. WebDAV it is. It needs just a little more tweaking. It can be made to work. I know it. You know it. Now do it." · 3 years ago
