Have been trying to develop PinePhone applications for months... I think the real problem is that I don't have a "need" for a libre phone app. As well as the stack is not there yet.
Most open applications are geared towards development. But we dev on a keyboard. Apps that I do use on a phone are all tied to a commerical service. YouTube, telegram, calandar, etc.. It's not something I can just put on github and it'll work.
I'm out of idea.

I actually enjoy most of the YouTube app features. I'm sure TUI can't statsify my use. It's not as light weight as I want. But it's faster to navigate in GUI compared to TUI on a phone. Likewise, I tried a TUI Telegram client. But I can't send messages as fast as I can with the desktop client. Maybe some note taking app would be good idea? But then I need to setup some server to sync it with my PC.. back to square 1
sxmo sounds like a good one! I might switch to it from phosh. · 2 years ago
I want a PinePhone specifically because I want to be free of commercial apps and crap that's hostile to anything open. Calls, SMS, and on-demand IP is my baseline requirement. I want to adapt my lifestyle to what can be achieved with libre. · 2 years ago
Alternatively, I'm not really sure what the "Android Auto" story is for the Pinephone, but I'm sure it needs work and that it'd be useful to some people. E.g., pushing turn-by-turn directions to car dashboard screens. · 2 years ago
I've been interested in sxmo/swmo workflows on the Pinephone, largely because it's a far snappier environment than the other ones available for that platform. Every other UI seems to react just a little too slowly for my tastes. Maybe some sort of fzf-based set of messaging scripts capable of handling MMSes? Something that could be accessed from a footclient terminal.
In that vein, how many of the apps you use could you replace with something significantly lighter? E.g., rather than a YouTube app or YouTube in the browser, could you make a reasonable TUI interface with, for instance, sixel image previews capable of launching videos from an Invidious instance using mpv or mplayer? · 2 years ago
