Something I've noticed in social media is how arguments in the large turn into arguments in the small. Like how women will say "I won't do emotional labor for you" as though the response will be "great point honey, let's end capitalism". The argument is in the large: capitalism requires the free physical labor of women ➡ capitalism is expanding into the social realm ➡ it must also exploit the emotional labour of women.

@ruby_witch I was using it as exemplar of the pattern. I am not belittling anyone. I think it fits into a more general discomfort with having a problem without having a solution. The instinct is to reformulate the problem as the solution and stop more thought: "the faucet is leaking" ➡ "fix the leak". Phew now it's framed like a solution. I think humans need to be comfortable just sitting with a problem for a while. · 1 year ago
It's interesting when someone is making a statement attempting to confront something which you seem to not be in favor for (capitalism expanding to the social realm) that the initial reflex is to belittle them even making an attempt. Why do you think that is? I would think it would be more productive to applaud them even if it does seem futile. · 1 year ago
