2022 - the end of the Linux Desktop!
At least for myself... I declassified Linux as secondary OS, from now on I will focus on BSDs mainly.
I have started reinstalling Devuan as stable in one disk, there are still stuff that are available only on Linux.
After that I will install and tuning FreeBSD, I am documenting everything, I'll publish everything when all the notes will be organized and redacted! 馃憣

@Smokey I decided to use FreeBSD, it fits fine for me! 路 2 years ago
@reidrac nothing is gonna change drastically. I am going to lost a bunch of proprietary stuff like Zoom, DRM/EME, CUDA, some software that is designed mainly for Linux, but the user experience will be mostly the same.
And I am going to take advantage of the unique FreeBSD features, better ZFS integration, consistency etc...
But most important I plan to have plenty of fun; there is very little interest in BSD compared to Linux hence in BSD the development is still crafted and designed they it should be, not like in Linux where everything is hypertrophic just because "computational time is cheaper than programming time"... 馃嵑 路 2 years ago
@gnuserland Are you the kind of person who is concerned about LOC size and security vulnerabilities? When I was doing research on BSD I found this interesting talk about the differences between open, bsd netbsd, and freebsd and how they handle security/patches. If you have some time I would recommend giving it a watch. Good luck to you, I hope everything works out.

Big corps cannot resist to put theirs tentacles anywhere to control anything. however even with these people on key positions the BSD license makes the development lesser manipulative, on the contrary on Linux corps have this manipulative attitude and they are constantly shaping the Linux environment the way they need regardless the end-users.
Modern Linux is shaped by RH/IBM, all the major projects around the Linux Desktop are founded by RH, endorsed by RH people (GTK, Systemd, Gnome, Wayland, etc...), this is not the idea of community I have.
Also at RH & Family introduced the attitude that "you are with them or against them", they want this monoculture and then I chose to be against them.
Using Linux is not funny as it used to be but the BSDs still preserve it. 路 2 years ago
@mc Haiku OS is a nice project, I hope it will grow up more. 路 2 years ago
@reidrac modern Linux is became a giant junkyard in the name of Money God! The worst company that couldn't care less about free software and opensource sit around the board member.
Linux is entered in its final phase, total exploitation! It is already an unsustainable project, when using it will become no more profitable all the corps around will jump directly on its replacement which is already there: phucsia. 路 2 years ago
We will be waiting for your review of HAIKU OS next year. :D 路 2 years ago
