After I came back to gemini I feel like it鈥檚 mostly capsules that don鈥檛 exist anymore and "Hi I鈥檓 new here and it鈥檚 a test" kind of capsules everywhere. Is it just me and I need to search for new users or is that what gemini became?

@deerbard it was broken, its fixed now, thanks for the hint 路 2 months ago
@deerbard I just use a new line and an arrow like in gemtext. It doesn't seem to support the optional comment though. 路 2 months ago
@hanzbrix @mrrobinhood5 I do post whenever I have something to write about. As for capsules of others that I find interesing, I know nytpu.com and idiomdrottning.org are still on. (sorry, don鈥檛 know how to link here as I can only write in one line and see only a small part of it. 路 2 months ago
@me Is it empty or is something not working for me? I鈥檓 not going to follow an empty capsule. Firts I need to decided it鈥檚 interesting somehow :) 路 2 months ago
@mrrobinhood5 I very much agree with this, I am looking into getting one of the free gemlogs to get me started and then have a few ideas to get started of my own. 馃槀
Links to good free gemlog places are appreciated. 路 2 months ago
@deerbard @hanzbrix yes exactly this. I left for a couple of months and came back to the same thing. abandoned capsules. but I remember the start of the web was like this. it was the wild wild web. the exploration and discovery aspect of the Internet is lost, so it feels weird having to do that in Gemini but I assure you, theres new things being posted.
long story short, be the solution. post content that will inspire explorers to do the same, even if you never find out you were. 路 2 months ago
@deerbard I would say so. It is going the right way and more people are staying. We can all work towards rephrasing the narrative though and add to the content. 路 2 months ago
for the moment my capsule is active, dont know for how long, but for the moment i feel gemini is the only place for freedom of speech and advert free sharing:
gemini://magdesign.flounder.online
btw. please share interesting capsules with us, they are hard to find! 路 2 months ago

@daruma I was trying to figure out if I can browse gopher in amfora (gemini browser I use) but I didn鈥檛 find and answer yet too. 路 2 months ago
@hanzbrix @mrrobinhood5 Yes, I understand why people leave but my question was more about - Are there still active users who write interesting logs here, cause I can鈥檛 find new capsules to replace those I observed, that are abandoned now. I guess your answer is yes, keep searching? 路 2 months ago
I actually find more content on Gopher, but this is where I write most of my entries. I haven't found a lot on Gemini myself. 路 2 months ago
btw, this is a whole separate post to express how grateful I am to the hackers/devs (and bots and feds too i guess) who write the code to make this sort of :1969 protocol possible. Thanks! :) 路 2 months ago
Apart from the bots and feds, the incentive structure for posting here is quite different. Hackers and devs enjoy writing awesome code for this format, and I'm glad for it. Regular users can't do that, and don't get the same highly-refined dopamine rush that the normal web delivers, so there's a higher barrier to entry and to staying. 路 2 months ago
@mrrobinhood5 very well put! 路 2 months ago
the web is a hard habit to break. many explore out here and dip their toes and go back to habit, abandoning their capsules when they see that there's no dopamine or immediate feedback on their posts. many come back when they realize the web still sucks. some never do. when you do find those remnants of abandoned capsules don't fret, it is a part of the natural development cycle of a new protocol. just keep exploring. 路 2 months ago
@deerbard I think it's partially the nature of gemini, the whole by the people for the people mentality.
I think it is part of what makes gemini great, having to rediscover things.
I am new to this and I have at least had fun discovering all kinds of things. 路 2 months ago
