Thanks @chirale :)
And by the way, nice capsule! 路 1 month ago
Nice piece, I like this part:
"If you long for a more human way of interacting online, it might be time to reconsider where and how you share the things you want to say."
It's exactly what I'm trying to do and what I suggest too. 路 1 month ago
Cool stuff @jmcs :) It's surely a more self-aware way of consuming digital content, and I'm all for it! I've never really delved into RSS but this may be the right time to try. 路 2 months ago
@dariolob , interestingly enough, circa 10-15 years ago was around when I stopped using Feedly to follow blogs and content... trying to hook myself up to feeds again, after getting out of Twitter and Facebook years ago.
surprisingly, my Feedly account still existed. I could see how big part of what I used to follow is now gone, but could get some urls that are still pushing RSS feed, and subscribe again (using offpunk now :) ) 路 2 months ago
Hey @darkghost, thank you for your input. I think that the 15ish years figure is spot on: something happened around that time (maybe the rise of Facebook?) which in some way changed the internet landscape forever. It happened in a way that most of us didn't even notice, but now the effects are undeniable. I often wonder if a radical change is ever gonna come, as I find the current state of the web unbearable. But discovering places like this gives me hope, it makes me think that maybe the seed of change is already here, just waiting to grow. I hope with time more people will start looking around, longing for a more human digital experience, and find us here. 路 2 months ago
@drmollytov thank you very much for sharing this, very interesting stuff. Didn't know about ARPU, it's a "fascinating" (so to say) metric. Gonna do some more research on this topic for sure. 路 2 months ago
This absolutely touches on what separates the old web from the new web. There was a change in the way the web worked about 15ish years ago. Instead of you seeking something out, an algorithm suggested things for you. The computer is deciding what you like. And because a lot of folks are lazy or busy, they just go with it. Seeking is time consuming, curating a careful list of things is hard work. Computers do the work for you! And all you had to sacrifice was the human element. 路 2 months ago
You touched on the main reason I like Gemini and the small Web: it's about doing human stuff my human way and seeing other people do human stuff too. Also, idk if you've seen this, but you might be interested in Nicholas Carr's piece on digital sharecropping: https://www.roughtype.com/?p=1600 路 2 months ago
