@whixr now that i have been in the area i understand why one might want to take a break during the summer. can get hot there.
seriously, if you need a hand, i鈥檇 be happy to come over for a few days and help. would enjoy it and can bring my own tools and camping gear.
my neighbors (small young family) starts building soon. another opportunity to help and see how it is done. we are slowly building a community here, the second most important thing in my mind after shelter. 路 2 years ago
I think you were much of the way over here recently (at the lake).
We're about to wrap up for this spring. We'll be back around to frame up the front half this October.
We studied a book on residential stick framing, came up with a design, built it in cad, calculated the material requirements, organized delivery, and spent several weeks implementing the design. Knowing the harmonic relationships of the material sizes, what fasteners, and which tools is important.
A neighbor is a retired framer. I brought him in to help me with the high up work (cottage is 26' tall on the high side). I learned more being up on ladders with him than from any book. 路 2 years ago
@whixr did you frame all by yourself? how many humans does it require? i was wondering if i could do it one day with the help from some (unfortunately unexperienced) friends or if i really need to hire someone for that.

I recently did similar here: workbench, kitchen counter, kitchen shelves. All out of offcuts and scrap left over from framing the cottage last spring. 路 2 years ago
