there is this interesting space between prefab homes and on-site construction that is prefab walls and roofs to be assembled at the construction site that are customizable to great extend. electric, plumbing, shape of house, precision cuts, solar, even air tightness is an option. this space seem worth exploring. i want to do most construction work myself, otoh, iā€™d take a cnc routed and nailed wall any day over slowly building out in the open over weeks and months. tradeoffs and decisions!

@whixr - good point - yet to find a true straight, untwisted length of wooden stud - much sighting down lengths selecting in the yard to get as good as i can. Ā· 2 years ago

i very much like the prefab sip idea - but may be a disapointment due to their manufacturing tolerances and our expectations. last prefab frame kit my builder put up had to be reworked by his team due poor tolerances. Ā· 2 years ago

Maybe with steel studs. Traditional stick frame building materials move twist buckle and bend quite quickly as their moisture content drops. The clock starts as soon as you cut the straps on the bundle. Get it nailed and braced and blocked quick or you'll be building with bananas by 1PM :) Ā· 2 years ago
