on a trip through my old home town talking to old friends. observation: the mood has shifted and i hear quite some negativity about germany鈥檚 future specifically and europe in general. been away a fee years. a lot has changed, but then again, much has remained the same and problems remain unsolved. what to make of this?

i do like myself a great d枚ner, no question. don鈥檛 need more than a handful of places to serve them, though. so higher demand? or maybe increased money laundering? (gastronomy is traditionally more involved in money laundering than most other businesses) 路 1 week ago
To be fair, I've heard that d枚ner tastes great. I've never had it, but friends who lived in germany for a while praised the d枚ner as delicious. 路 1 week ago
This sounds sad. Sorry to say so, but having your home transformed like that is... tough to deal with. I get that things change... even under the best circumstances you'd want your home to change with it. But the natural organic continuation of your way of life is... not the same thing as coming back to find ... vending machines with dildos and syringes. gross. 路 1 week ago
@danrl i dunno what's going on there, even in the smaller town next me strange things happen. there are vending machines for dildos and syringes? wtf? and in the town of Regensburg, around the central station you feel like to be in a foreign country. along the mein shopping street, in earlieer days there were jewelery, high quality food etc.. now we have barber shops, cellphone stores and d枚ner... 路 1 week ago
@half_elf_monk and @bavarianbarbarian thanks for sharing your observations. trying to make sense of all my impressions so far. now heading to bavaria to check out things there and talk to old friends. also meeting with some folks from the administration/government who are always interesting to talk to.
the best i can describe my origin country after 3 years of absence is: stagnant. but i am close to saying that maybe it even went a bit for the worse. irregular mass immigration has also changed how the inner city looks. different type of businesses now prevail, catering to different needs. 路 1 week ago
I'm not from europe, but generally I think that culture is upstream of the will of the people politically speaking. The culture of the elite ruling class is upstream of their decisions too. That said, the culture of the ruling elites may... not be in step with that of the citizens, and that's likely going to cause a lot of problems. So while I hear that Germany in particular is having a rough patch politically, and I'm ignorant on a lot the particualrs, so... Godspeed to you and yours. 路 1 week ago
It's a pity that i have to say that, but it's true. in the next capital town i live to, i just can not understand 90% of the people talking.. please don't get me wrong, half of my family is from abroad, chinese, african, romanian...i don't get it why is it always the same kind of people causing trouble? 路 1 week ago
