interesting talk about burning it (software) all down and start over. featuring some surprising retro operating systems.

I went down this rabbit hole, wrote about my "distraction free raspberry pi" too: gemini://tobykurien.com/articles/2022-02-01-cyberdeck-mk1.gmi ยท 4 days ago

@m0xee I am slowly working my way down to using more TUI tools actually. ๐
Seeing things like Oberon though, makes me think I can have my cake and eat it too. ยท 5 days ago
@hanzbrix Or a set of good TUI software, e.g.
gomuks for messaging
mutt for email
tut for Fedi browsing
amfora for Gemini, w3m/elinks for web โ or chawan to cover both
cmus for music
Running on a device like Beepberry โ that would be really good.
But that's also a far shot from being ready to use. ยท 6 days ago
The premise made me watch the whole thing. I've become obsessed with needing low footprint.
This idea is going in the right direction, smaller systems on smaller devices, less complexity and hopefully no mice.
Mice, touchscreens and touch pads are just awful interface devices.
Imagine being able to use all your apps from a PDA sized device with a miniature keyboard, tiled window styled. Sway, but on a few dollars of hardware.
I don't have the knowhow, yet, but I hope someone gets started on this, the possibilities. ยท 6 days ago
