large language models and their integrations that surf the web for me habe become my sanity firewall when searching for or learning about a new topic. even if they hallucinate a bit, the experience is superior than wading through the mud of seo garbage and skipping through cringy sponsor messages in videos.

It’s unfortunate, but it beats appending “Reddit” to all my search queries I guess. Anathem’s reticulum is seeming more and more likely every day. · 1 month ago
searching the web has become the most excrutiating process in the last few years. As if the corpo wanted us to feel 'saved' by AI since we've made such a mess of the internet. · 1 month ago
today i learned from an llm about bolt remover special nuts, which allowed me to remove a totally torn oil drain plug. the small and simple tool was only a few bucks at the hardware store. that allowed me to change oil on our car. i just described my problem and got a valuable tool and process description to solve it. during dinner my wife and i were discussing something regarding nutritional value of honey. when we didn’t know something that would have moved the conversation forward we just talked to chat gpt and it worked out well. kinda scary that we had an llm join at the dinner table, though. 😳 · 1 month ago
I unfortunately have started using it that way as well, if I can't find something in my first search, I abandon it for an LLM.
The search engines have made wading through the garbage, take hours. Plus everything is a list... I don't want lists when I am trying to find a pie dough recipe.
I don't know if webpages are just all crap now or if search engines are just target feeding the crappy ones. · 1 month ago
I've been using DDGs AI to help learn programming topics. Very helpful. · 1 month ago
