i am wont to think that men are not so much the keepers of herds as herds are the keepers of men, the former are so much the freer. (walden, economy)

That might depend where the herds are, and how one defines 'freedom.' Free range sheep following a shepherd? Happy sheep. Cattle in a crowded pole-barn meat-factory? Hardly free at all, I bet they can barely feel like cows. · 5 months ago
